MARIELENA STUART’s RESPONSE to the NATIONAL PRO-LIFE ALLIANCE

Marielena Stuart

Republican Candidate for the U.S. Senate 2012 (FL)

July 30, 2012

This is my official response to the National Pro-Life Alliance in Annandale, Virginia, regarding their request that I complete their 2012 Congressional Candidate Survey.   I will be posting a copy of this response on my official candidacy website at www.STUART2012.com,  as I have received numerous postcards from National Pro-Life Alliance supporters in Florida, asking that I reply to the survey.

I have carefully reviewed both the National Pro-Life Alliance survey and the backgrounder and explanation of questions which accompany the survey, and find that they not only conflict with my position of no exceptions in the matter of abortion, but that the texts actually conflict with one another.

For example, survey questions (1) and (10) contain an exception clause:

(1) Will you support federal legislation giving parents the right to stop any  abortion from being performed on their minor daughter, except to save the life of  the mother?

(10)  Will you support an amendment to the U.S. Constitution banning abortion  except to save the life of the mother?

Yet, the backgrounder for survey question (10) states:

(10) A Human Life Amendment to the U.S. Constitution would permanently  protect all unborn children from dying at the hands of abortionists.

Obviously this statement would be false, if the Constitutional Amendment had a life of the mother exception clause.

Unfortunately, from the context of the National Pro-Life Alliance survey, I can only conclude that the National Pro-Life Alliance supports an exception clause to both federal legislation on abortion as well as a Constitutional Amendment. This is not a valid pro-life position, and it certainly conflicts with mine.

What I find doubly disconcerting is that the National Pro-Life Alliance would support any exception on abortion, given the fact that the Roman Catholic Church holds that the direct killing of an unborn child is never permissible under any circumstances.  Such killing is forbidden by God’s Commandment “Thou shalt not kill,” and by the Natural Law which is binding on all peoples, at all times, under all circumstances.  Perhaps   Martin E. Fox, President of the National Pro-Life Alliance, at (703) 321-9200, can explain his background and any familiarity with the information presented in this paragraph.

Can the leaders of the National Pro-Life Alliance be ignorant of the harsh reality, that any exception on abortion completely eviscerates the founding principle upon which the Right-to-Life Movement is based – that the innocent human life of an unborn child is inviolate?

Furthermore, from a strictly medical point of view, modern advances in obstetrical care have made the exception for the life of the mother obsolete.

Your Congressional Candidate Survey seeks to elicit my position on key pro-life issues, so let me clearly state that:

As United States Senator, I will strive to seek mandatory federal protection of the unborn child in the form of a Constitutional Human Life Amendment without exception. Further, I pledge to use of power of my office to bring about the termination of all federal programs of population control – foreign and domestic – which fund or promote abortion, abortifacients, sterilization, contraception, and anti-natalist propaganda.

As U.S. Senator, I will oppose all forms of research and experimentation directed at the killing of the human embryo or fetus.

Concerning life issues at the other end of the life spectrum, as U.S. Senator, I will oppose all federal legislation that would legalize euthanasia, aka “mercy killing” of the elderly and the disabled.

Thank you for the opportunity to clearly set out my consistent prolife stand on these critical life and death issues which face Americans today.

For Life – without exception– I remain,

Sincerely yours,

MARIELENA STUART
